Gareth Southgate responds to critics over Phil Foden situation
The Three Lions are currently on international duty in the World Cup in Qatar.
The national team celebrated a 6 – 2 win over Iran in the opening match and played a goalless draw with the USA in the second meeting. Their third opponents will be Wales on Tuesday.
Foden has found his playing time limited at the team, while Southgate was questioned to bench one of the brightest players in the country.
“He is a super player. We think the world of him and he is going to play a big part [for England at the FIFA World Cup]. We love Phil. He’s a super player,” the manager said, via ITVFootball.
“He’s obviously been into the first game [vs Iran]. We decided not to put him into the second [vs USA] but he is going to play an important part in this tournament for us. There is no question about that.”
