Emmanuel Petit fires stunning Mykhailo Mudryk Chelsea transfer assessment

Emmanuel Petit has questioned whether Mykhailo Mudryk is “happy” at Chelsea and believes the Ukrainian international would prefer to play for Arsenal.

Mudryk appeared to be on his way to Premier League leaders Arsenal in a deal worth around £80 million, but Chelsea swooped in and agreed to a deal with Shakhtar Donetsk instead.

The 22-year-old has signed an eight-and-a-half-year contract with Chelsea and made his debut in the goalless Premier League draw against Liverpool.

Petit, a former Premier League player, believes Mudryk can be a success at Chelsea but wonders if he would be happier at Arsenal, a club he repeatedly stated he wanted to join before leaving Shakhtar.

‘I liked the way Mudryk played on his debut against Liverpool,’ Petit told Betway. ‘I believe he brought something different to the Chelsea game when he faced them.

‘He demonstrated excellent ball control. He demonstrated that he was not afraid by accepting responsibility right away. He wanted to put the defenders under pressure.

‘It is still a significant risk for the future. He wanted to play for Arsenal at first, but ended up at Chelsea, so my question is, “Is he happy about that?” I’m not certain.

‘However, he would undoubtedly improve their squad’s quality. I’m hoping he’ll be successful at Chelsea.’

While Arsenal leads the Premier League by five points, Chelsea is currently tenth, ten points outside the Champions League places.

Chelsea host Fulham on Friday night, and former Premier League striker Chris Sutton believes the Blues will win.

‘These two teams met a few weeks ago, when new Chelsea signing Joao Felix was sent off on his debut and Fulham won 2-1,’ Sutton said.

‘Is it this time? Who knows how Chelsea will line up on Friday with all of their new signings, including £107 million man Enzo Fernandez.

‘Jorginho started their last game, on 21 January, against Liverpool, and he has now joined Arsenal. Hakim Ziyech and Conor Gallagher were also on the team at Anfield, and both were linked with moves away – particularly Ziyech, who thought he was on his way to PSG. He can’t possibly be involved?

‘There are so many questions, and Blues manager Graham Potter simply does not know who his best team is right now.

‘I like the look of Mykhailo Mudryk, who is extremely quick, but selling Jorginho is strange, even though his contract expires in the summer.

‘All of this makes forecasting extremely difficult. Fulham have lost their last two league games despite not playing particularly poorly, and with a more settled team, they should definitely play more fluid football.

‘However, this could be the moment Potter’s fortunes change and he gets a break for the first time at Stamford Bridge. At least, that’s where I’m going!’
