Chelsea set the world record for summer transfer spending
After Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang joined Chelsea, the club broke the record for the most money spent in a single transfer window.
The Blues were closely matched with Real Madrid in 2019, who spent around £272m, but the anticipated £12m acquisition of Aubameyang has increased their spending to a new high of £273.5m, including add-ons.
Chelsea spent a significant amount of their resources revamping its defence, bringing in Marc Cucurella from Brighton for £62m and Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli for £34m.
Raheem Sterling, who cost the Blues £47.5m, was their first transfer this summer.
Young talent additions like those of Gabriel Slonina (£12m), Carney Chukwuemeka ( £20m), and Cesare Casadei ( £16m) made up the remaining funds.
