Brentford Shot-stopper David Raya Addresses Transfer Rumors Linking Him to Manchester United and Chelsea

Spanish international goalkeeper, David Raya, has confirmed that he has rejected a new contract offer from Brentford and will be delaying any talks regarding his future at the club. Raya, who has been linked with interest from Tottenham, Manchester United and Chelsea, stated that he is currently focused on Brentford’s push for Europe and feels that now is not the right time to sign a new deal.

“I was offered a new contract last year and one in January but we didn’t reach an agreement,” Raya said. “I’m really, really happy at Brentford and for now, a new contract is secondary. The most important thing is the team and the games. We’ll see where we are in May.”

Raya, who joined Brentford from Blackburn for £3 million four years ago, spoke about his time at the club and the impact it has had on his career.

“Brentford feels like home, when I came here three-and-a-half years ago it’s because I needed a new challenge,” he said. “The manager has done a magnificent job with the team and has set a foundation of trust.”

With just one year left on his contract, there is sure to be a scramble for Raya’s signature come summer, but the in-form goalkeeper remains relaxed and is taking things one day at a time.

“You never know what’s around the corner. There’s nothing I can say about what’s going to happen in the summer. I don’t even know what’s going to happen on Saturday,” he added with a smile.
