Marathonbet reports ‘abnormal’ activity before allegedly fixed match Hoverla v Olimpik


On Monday, we reported the Ukrainian Premier League match between Hoverla Uzhgorod and Olimpik Donetsk (0:2) could have been fixed. Today, Marathonbet has confirmed heavy betting on the away team within hours before the kick-off.

Both teams were almost level in standings of the Ukrainian Premier League. “Therefore, we first considered Hoverla as the favourite of the match, given the were playing on the home field”, said the bookie’s spokesperson.

Marathonbet added that just on 8am GMT on the match day the odds were 2.72 (Hoverla) – 3.2 (Draw) – 2.68 (Olimpik). But within hours, punters started betting heavily on the away team, both on a win and on a win with a negative handicap. The bookie had respond by slash the odds to 8.4 – 4.85 – 1.33.

The goals in the match that was held on Sunday, April 3, were scored by Olimpik players Goshkoderya and Moha. It’s also worth noting that the Donetsk club finished the match with only 9 players, after Tanchyk and Partsvania were sent off.
