SERVING MEALS IN MILWAUKEE: The Matilda Ward Youth Empowerment Association is serving three meals a week to about 100 people in Butterfly Park at 38th Street and Meinecke Avenue in Milwaukee. SURVIVING ABUSE, CELEBRATING LIFE: The fifth annual Paths to Healing Conference takes place June 22 in Madison. The conference addresses surviving child sex abuse, with an emphasis on male survivors. Participants include the Rape Crisis Center, Wisconsin Coalition Against Sexual Assault, Outreach, Proud Theater, and UNIDOS Against Domestic Violence. For more, go online to wcasa.org.

SHAPE THE FUTURE: A community forum on health care coverage is set for 1 p.m. June 25 at Cardinal Stritch University's Bonaventure Hall, 6801 N. Yates Road, Fox Point. Speakers include Robert Kraig of Citizen Action Wisconsin and Dr. Bill Reed, a retired physician/advocate with Physicians for a National Health Program. Hosts include Citizen Action, North Shore Huddle and the Wisconsin Federation of Nurses and Health Professionals. RECRUITING CANDIDATES: Emerge Wisconsin is accepting applications from Democratic women who want to enroll in a training course to run for public office. Applications are due by June 30 for the second class of 2017. For more, go to emergewi.org.

BATTLING FOR THE NET: Activists will stage an internet-wide day of action to protect net neutrality. The protest takes place July 12 and involves dozens of progressive groups and tech companies. For more, go to battleforthenet.com.

SUMMER STUDYING: Early registration is underway for the 21st annual Wisconsin American Indian Studies Summer Institute, which takes place July 31–Aug. 4 in Crandon. UNITING, RESISTING: The Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest LGBTQ civil rights organization, has launched a nationwide summer of action anchored by more than 250 grassroots events from coast to coast. The theme of the events is “Unite. Resist. Enlist,” reflecting the goal of HRC’s summer of action: to empower and mobilize millions of equality voters to fight back against attacks that undermine the LGBTQ community — and to organize activists for the 2018 midterm elections. RECOGNIZING COURAGE TO CREATE CHANGE: The Colin Higgins Foundation in California awarded the 17th annual Youth Courage Awards to three young people who have shown “extraordinary leadership and advocacy on behalf of LGBTQ youth.” The winners — who received $10,000 scholarships and a trip the next LGBTQ Creating Change Conference — are Daniel Garcia, 18, of Gulfport, Mississippi; Julieta Ramirez-Solis, 18, of Gresham, Oregon; and Dafahlia Mosley, 21, of Lodi, California.
